Kettle Moraine — Scuppernong Trailhead Loops
- Distance: 2 to 5 miles (three color-coded loops)
- Surface: Singletrack dirt + grass
- Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
- Trailhead: Scuppernong Trail parking lot, County Highway ZZ east of Hwy 67, north of Eagle, WI
About this route
Scuppernong is the third major trail cluster in the Kettle Moraine — Southern Unit (alongside Nordic and Emma Carlin). It’s the least technical of the three: rolling but not steep, mostly grass and gentle dirt singletrack, with short loops. Good for an introductory trail run, an easy recovery day, or a small-group coach-led session where you can keep eyes on the whole group.
Loop options
| Loop | Approx. distance | Difficulty | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Green | ~2 mi | Easy | Shortest loop, mostly flat |
| Orange | ~3.5 mi | Easy–Moderate | Middle distance, gentle rolls |
| Red | ~5 mi | Moderate | Combines the longer outer perimeter |
Distances are approximate. Confirm at the trailhead kiosk.
What to know before you go

- The Scuppernong area is also known for spring wildflowers and prairie restoration.
Why we run here
Easier than Emma Carlin (less technical, less elevation) and easier than the Nordic Blue Loop (which is long). When parents want their first trail experience with their youth runner — or when the coaching session needs to keep a group together — Scuppernong is the right call. A few minutes farther from Whitewater than Emma Carlin, but the trade-off is worth it for the right group.
